The owner of the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, meandered up to his resort’s tranquil rooftop terrace one day and had a serious ah-ha moment. “We should have a spa here!” he declared, looking around at the calming backdrop. Zip forward several months later and the PURE Spa has taken its place overlooking the beach from its elevated perch among the sun and stars—proving to be everything the owner had hoped it could be.
When I perused the email about the spa’s opening, there was one design detail that brought a smile to my face so I thought I’d share the kicky choice for a lighting fixture here on Productrazzi today. Its name is Moo, a whimsical trophy of a wall fixture manufactured by Northern Lighting in Norway.
Trond Svendgård and Ove Rogne designed the poly-resin faux trophy mount, which can be used both indoors and outdoors (as the PURE Spa designers have placed it to such a delightful effect). The inspiration for the fixture came from the breathtaking scenic beauty of Hamarøy in northern Norway where both designers have summer homes. Moose are frequently seen traipsing over lawns in the region, a fact that inspired Svendgård and Rogne to pay homage to the regal animals in such a playful way.
It’s no wonder the founder of PURE, Cassandra Jertshagen, was quickly enamored with Moo given her Swedish roots. “The moose in Scandinavian countries is known for its strength and perseverance, each year conquering the cold,” she remarks. “Much as the lion is the king of the jungle, the moose is the king of the Norwegian forest.”
I’m guessing it is also her Scandinavian DNA that has given her the insight to create such a peaceful environment with such excellent services. “The beauty lies in the simple things,” she tells Productrazzi. “We highly value the elemental lushness surrounding us given our unique location on the eleventh floor, which infuses our spa with added allure.”
The services include both indoor and outdoor treatments and activities, including rooftop yoga. The sound of the Atlantic is a constant reminder to simply breathe and the intimate scale of the premises combined with sweeping views of the ocean enhance the tranquility.
It’s the melding of bright Floridian decorative elements and a luxurious Swedish point of view that makes this spa intriguing to me. The papaya facials and dark chocolate body treatments are simply the icing on the proverbial cake!
You can order the Moo in North America from YLighting or Lumens.
